MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS

  • Remember to read the first part of the sentence each time you read the alternatives. It-is easy to forget what the original stem says when you get to option D.
  • To help you concentrate, use a piece of paper to cover the questions and then reveal the alternatives one at a time.
  • Learn to look for distractors (options which may seem to be correct, but on closer inspection are not, perhaps because they are only partly true, or because the information does not actually appear in the text).

9Does the writer mention the source of the news?

10Does the writer say anything about the effect of environmental change on us?

11Does the text mention anything about our attitude to the changes brought about by nature?

Questions 12-15

Look at paragraph F.

12Does the paragraph mention solutions to flooding?

13Does the paragraph mention international co-ordination?

14Is planting trees compared with anything else?

15If it is, which is the cheaper option?

Questions 16-17

Look at paragraph G.

16What does the expression 'be without fresh water' mean?

17How many people will have fresh water by 2025? A third or two-thirds?

Questions 18-20

Look at paragraph H.

18Does the paragraph mention what will happen to low-lying islands in the future?

19If so, what wilt happen?

20Is the writer's prediction about the future certain or probable?

Questions 21-23

Look at paragraph I.

21Where does the writer state his or her conclusion to the paragraph?

22Where does the writer state what other people think? Which words show you?

23Does the writer compare people being accustomed to environmental damage now and in the past?
