Tips for preparing for the IELTS Reading test

  • Do complete plenty of IELTS Reading practice tests in the months before your IELTS test.
  • Don’t wait until a week before your IELTS test to start practising.
  • Do make sure that you are clear which of the two types of the IELTS test you need to take: IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training.
  • When you’re doing practice tests, don't check your answers in a hurry. Instead, make sure that you understand all your mistakes.
  • Do practise reading widely in English. Read about a range of subjects that you’re interested in.
  • Don’t read very slowly or look up all the new words you find. You need to practise reading quickly.
  • Don’t try to learn about a subject just because you’ve seen it in test practice materials.
